STERLING, Kan. (TaborBluejays.com) – After securing a 1-0 victory against Evangel on Saturday, Tabor aimed to continue strengthening their conference record on Wednesday as they traveled to Sterling. The Bluejays entered the match with a conference record of 2-3, while the Warriors went in with a conference record of 2-4. Tabor has dominated Sterling in every matchup since 2021, and they looked continue their win streak this season.

The first half of the match unfolded with little excitement, as both teams battled for control but were unable to generate any real momentum. Felipe Rodriguez was the first Bluejay to take a stab at scoring, but his shot was saved by Sterling’s goalkeeper. Albin Gonzalez also attempted to convert as well but couldn’t find the back of the net either. Despite occasional possession shifts and a few attempts at goal, neither team was able to break through, leading to a largely uneventful 45 minutes.

Unlike the first half, the second half began with lots of action from the Tabor offense. Molelwa Abendelwa found the back of the net almost instantly, with an assist from Cason Chadd. This was the first score of the match on either side. One minute later, Abendelwa recorded his second goal, this time assisted by Pol Fernandez and Abe Friesen. After a quick five minutes on the field, the Bluejays were suddenly ahead 2-0 and still looking to shut down the Warriors.

Tabor remained in possession for most of the period, with Pol Fernandez taking a shot at the goal around the 57-minute mark, saved by Sterling’s goalkeeper. With about 29 minutes left in the match, Abendelwa put it past the keeper once again and earned himself a hat-trick on the afternoon. Sterling responded with a goal off a penalty kick, leaving the score 3-1 with the Bluejays comfortably ahead. After exchanging shots back and forth across the grass, neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities and the match concluded with a Bluejay victory.

This Saturday, Tabor will face Ottawa University on their home turf, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. After the win against Sterling, Tabor’s conference record improves to 3-3, and the Braves will enter the contest with a conference record of 2-3-1.
