Waxahachie, Texas (SCWarriors.com) – Lady Warriors faced the Nelson University Lions on Saturday at 8 pm sadly earning their first loss of the season. The Warriors played both goalkeepers. The starting goalkeeper for the Warriors was Dixie Morgan and the Lions had Samantha Longoria.
Within the first 20 minutes, the Warriors had blocked 3 shots by the Lions before Morgan allowed the first goal of the game by Anna Bewley assisted by Daisy Altamirano. Shortly after the first shot, Morgan deflected a goal by Catherine Jesionek. Then 2 quick goals are made by the Lions one being Daisy Altamirano no assist, and Anna Bewley, assist by Stephanie Arreola.
When the second half started Elysa Apen was in for Morgan. Within the first few minutes, there was a shot attempt on goal by Anzley Meza but was saved by Apen. After a few more attempts by the Lions and good defense played by the Warriors, two goals within minutes of each other were given up by Apen. The first goal the Lions made was by Samantha Delgado, then another by Bewley, assisted by Stephanie Arreola. Holding the score at 0-5 Lions.
The Lions got their last goal midway through the second half by Stephanie Hernandez. Right at the end of the game, Jessica Gautreau for Sterling made their first and only goal of the night assisted by Emorie Sautter. The last play of this match was made by goalie Apen saving the ball not permitting the Lions to climb any higher on the scoreboard.
At the end of the match Warriors’ goalies Morgan had 4 SOG, 3 GA, and 1 save leaving her with a 25% save percentage and Apen had 6 SOG, 3 GA, and 3 saves leaving her with a 50% save percentage for the night.
Lady Warriors will face Paul Quinn at their home field Monday at 1 pm right before the men’s team kick-off.
