GREAT BEND, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – The 5th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team picked up its 15th sweep of the season on Saturday with a home court conquest over Dodge City Community College (25-16, 25-13, 25-16).
The victory moves the Cougars into a first place tie at 4-0 and 17-1 on the year to set up a big early conference season match Monday at 6th ranked Colby Community College (4-0, 14-1) in a 6:30 p.m. first serve. Dodge City takes their first loss in KJCCC play, slipping to 3-1 and 12-9 overall.
Barton clicked offensively all evening hitting at a .362 efficiency overall behind savvy distributing from setters Elena Stankovic and Maurin Reyes putting up 22 and 14 assists respectively.
Phoebe Reyes led with 13 kills, three attacks helping Barton get out to a 6-0 start with her fifth kill of the frame aiding in growing the lead out to 18-7. Reyes would later cap the contest scoring with the final two points completing the match on a .444 efficiency, to go along with, three assisted blocks.
Earning the first kill of the night, Kassidy Nixon finished with 11 kills total on a .259 attack. Nixon chalked up four in the first, three in the second sparking Barton to a 7-1 start, before adding four more in the final frame teaming with Reyes in a 5-1 closeout stretch of the match.
Barton’s middles aided in the sweep as Anna Wierzbicki‘s efficient .533 led to 8 kills while defensively Aubrey Olander assisted on four blocks helping limit Dodge City to just a .064 hitting percentage.
Naya Danenberg led the backline with 14 digs, Nixon and Stankovic with 9 each, and libero Mina Kaneko chalking up 8.
