25 Total Football Bulldogs Named to All-KCAC Teams

McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — Following a season in which the Bulldogs finished with their best record since 2010, a handful of the players who made it possible have been selected to the KCAC all-conference teams.

A total of 11 Bulldogs were named to the KCAC first and second teams while 14 players were named honorable mentions.

Highlighting the first team squad for MC is the KCAC co-offensive player of the year Jalil Brown. The sophomore was the focal point of the Bulldog offense as he was responsible for 1,560 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns as he proved to be an electrifying threat with the ball in his hands.

Alongside Brown, four other Bulldogs join him on the first team. Junior wideout Traven Lewis-Johnson acted as the top receiving threat for the Bulldogs, recording 27 catches for 476 yards and five touchdowns with the longest being a 77 yard score against Avila.

Harley Blaske, the senior tight end who received the Champion of Character award in the Kessinger division, served as the most reliable target in the red zone for MC as he pulled down 13 catches for 172 yards and three touchdowns. Blaske was also the man who caught the 72nd touchdown pass thrown by Szabo in his career to break the all time record.

Christopher Foster also joined the offensive players to make the first team after a season in which he acted as the primary center of the offensive line.

Defensive back Nehemiah Figueroa finds himself once again finds himself on the first team after another strong season. The 2023 second team all-American consistently made big plays with 57 total tackles and five interceptions plus a touchdown he scored when he returned an interception for a score. Figueroa was also named the NAIA defensive player of the week in MC’s second game of the year after securing three interceptions along with the touchdown against the Sterling College Warriors.

Five Bulldogs were able to secure a spot on the KCAC all-conference second team. Offensive lineman King Moore, who was a key part of an offensive line that was strong in pass and run blocking, capped off his season with second team honors.

Defensively, MC is well represented on the second team as defensive lineman Lester Amos III secured his spot after a year in which he had two sacks, 45 total tackles, and five tackles for loss. Linebacker Brandon Jones joins him as he led the Bulldogs in total tackles with 59 with 2.5 tackles for loss. Defensive back Kirby Lewis put in a strong year with a pair of interceptions while also nabbing 47 tackles and 3.5 tackles for a loss.

Special teamers also nabbed second team honors as Michael Kuntz who also served as a utility player, also made the second team while punter Kevin Dodd rounded out the squad.

First making the cut as an honorable mention is quarterback Tristan Szabo who now stands as the all-time leader in career passing yards and passing touchdowns in McPherson football history after throwing 2,089 yards, 23 touchdowns to just eight interceptions.

Three offensive skill players join Szabo as honorable mentions as fullback Adryan Rodriguez and wideouts Dillion Coleman and Kameron Hamid had their strong seasons rewarded.

The trenches were also well represented by a trio of offensive linemen in Romin JimenezCalip Harjo, and Christopher Shaw along with three defensive linemen in Jacob GoadJaquez Wilson, and Cameron Fouts all were named honorable mentions.

Playmaking defensive backs Christopher Roshell and Avery Crawford, who combined for a total of three interceptions, also made the cut.

Kicker Maxwell Barba finished out his freshman campaign with an honorable mentions bid as he ended the year 7-8 on the year in field goals with his longest being a 48 boot against Southwestern. Barba also went 49-50 on extra points and was reasonable for 70 total points. Kuntz was also able to snag an honrable mentions bid with his work as the long snapper.
