This Saturday, the Swedes Cross Country teams took a trip down to North Newton, Kan. to partake in the John Muthama-Rogers Invitational to face some good conference competition.
Overall, the team had a good showing on the course on a warmer than usual morning. Mary Kathryn Gibson led the charge for the women with a 22:29 and finishing 43rd while Eli Gruenbacher led the men with a time of 28:12, good for a 25th place finish.
Head Coach Daylon Smith on his team’s performances: “This Saturday our Swedes teams saw a lot of growth again as we had some good freshman performances, and we competed well against some top Kansas teams. The Women’s squad fought through the heat and did a great job at making some moves in the conference beating numerous KCAC runners. The Men’s squad did good as well, starting off with a top 25 finish from our top guy and a lot of our guys also beat numerous D2 and NJCAA runners, shows another great sign for the rest of the season. We have quite a bit of time off now as we prepare for another conference showdown at McPherson College in 4 weeks.”
