Rick Miller was presented the Pride of Lyons Award during Saturday night’s Boomfest. This award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond for the good of the Lyons community, often taking on important, thankless roles whether through their profession, volunteer work, or during extraordinary circumstances.
Miller is a 1977 graduate of Lyons High School, and he and his wife Kim, who married in 1982, have two grown sons and two grandchildren. He retired in 2023 from Oneok after a 42-year career that took him to Valley Center, Maize, Holton, Midland, Texas and Kansas City, Kansas before returning to Lyons in 1998.
He and his family also have owned Lyons Wrecker Service for 19 years and has been active member of the Lyons Fire Department for 28 years, following in the footsteps of his father Jim Miller, who served many years as Lyons Fire Chief.
Miller is also a member of the Rice County Alliance Commission, and a member of the Lyons City Council where he currently serves as Council President. Along with these roles,each Memorial Day weekend he places bronze Fire Department grave markers on the graves of deceased firemen, as a member of the fire department ensures the majestic flag hands from the ladder truck during Boomfest and other local occasions.
Boomfest organizers said through these many contributions, Rick Truly exemplifies the heart and spirit of the Pride of Lyons.
