HUTCHINSON, Kan. — June 22, 2026 — Reno County EMS has implemented new clinical decision support and medication verification technology as part of its ongoing commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based patient care.
Medication administration is one of the most critical responsibilities performed by EMS clinicians. In emergency situations, providers must rapidly assess patients, make treatment decisions, calculate medication doses, and administer potentially life-saving therapies in dynamic and often stressful environments. Reno County EMS’s adoption of these tools adds an additional layer of protection to help ensure medications are administered safely and accurately.
The technology provides clinicians with immediate access to approved treatment protocols, medication dosing guidance, and electronic medication verification capabilities. By electronically cross checking medications prior to administration, the system helps reduce the risk of medication errors and supports providers in delivering safe, evidence-based care.
“Patient safety is at the core of every decision we make at Reno County EMS,” said Monika Heller, Deputy Chief of Reno County EMS. “While medication errors are uncommon, emergency medicine is a fast-paced environment where providers are often making critical decisions in a matter of seconds. Implementing tools that support our clinicians and provide additional safeguards is one more way we can strengthen the care we provide to our patients.”
Heller added, “Our goal is to ensure our providers have the resources they need to deliver the safest and highest-quality care possible. By incorporating additional medication verification and clinical decision support tools into our system, we are continuing to invest in the safety of both our patients and our clinicians.”
The implementation is part of Reno County EMS’s ongoing investment in quality improvement, provider education, and the adoption of technologies that support positive patient outcomes.
The system also ensures clinicians have access to current protocols and medication information while in the field, helping maintain consistency in care across the organization.
The technology platform utilized by Reno County EMS includes OneDose®, a mobile clinical support application, and eMACCTM, an electronic medication administration cross-check system designed specifically for emergency medical services.
As EMS medicine continues to evolve, Reno County EMS remains committed to evaluating and implementing tools that enhance patient care, improve clinical performance, and promote the highest standards of safety for the residents and visitors of Reno County.
