RENO COUNTY, Kan. — A staff member in Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 is facing charges involving sex with a student and serving alcohol to minors.

Whitney Shull is charged in a case investigated by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office at the request of Reno County authorities with single counts of unlawful sexual relations, attempted unlawful sexual relations, and aggravated sexual battery plus two counts of hosting minors consuming alcohol.

According to a complaint filed in Reno County District court, the alleged incidents took place in Reno County between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, and involved instances where Shull allegedly engaged in sexual acts with two teens; one consensual and one non-consensual (when the alleged victim was unconscious), and held down the wrists of a third teen to unsuccessfully engage in a sex act.

Shull, who was arrested Monday morning by Hutchinson Police, is free on a $20,000 bond, with her initial court appearance expected early next week. Magistrate Judge Jeff Newsum has also issued a protective order barring Shull from having contact with the victims or any other person identified as a witness in the case, which was filed by Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett as a specially appointed prosecutor.
