Ad Astra Cares: Busy Weekend of Activities Ahead

Hutchinson Community College’s annual Plant Sale takes place this weekend at the south campus greenhouse at 1809 E. Essex Road. The plant sale supports HCC’s Collegiate Farm Bureau Club and Block the Bridle Club. Sale hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

 
Central Kansas Veteran Community Partnership is holding a drive-thru Resource Fair on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the south parking lot of Uptown Hutch. Veterans and their caregivers are invited to cone and learn about available resources in Central Kansas. A free meal will be served courtesy of Pizza Ranch.

 
Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Reno County is hosting Hops in the Hanger, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Wells Aircraft Hanger #1 at the Hutchinson Airport. Craft beer enthusiast or aviation buff… enjoy a fun night out beneath the wing of a unique aircraft. Delicious hors d’oeuvres, brewery vendors, and culinary creations. Tickets are $75 per person.

 
Hutchinson’s Historic Fox Theatre welcomes the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra to the stage, Friday at 8 p.m. A night out to celebrate the birthday of one of America’s most prolific composers, Duke Ellington. Celebrate the past and embrace the future with KCJO’s hard charging style. Don’t miss this memorable evening.

 
Stage 9 Hutch hosts the latest installment of “If Walls Could Talk,” on Saturday– go on a historic walking tour of downtown Hutchinson. Reserve your tickets in advance for this weekend’s performance at 6:30 p.m.

 
Guardians of the Children, Salt City Chapter hosts its 12

annual Kids Day at the Hutchinson Zoo on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the kids out for games, inflatables, giveaways, food and more. Guardians of the Children works to prevent child abuse and support families in need in the community.

 
It’s Sand Plum weekend in Hutchinson. The annual Sand Plum Bicycle weekend kicks of Saturday evening with a family ride and ice cream social at 5:30 in the Hutchinson Zoo parking lot. Cost is $15 per family. Come back Sunday morning at 8 for the Sand Plum Classic on the Kansas State Fairgrounds – with 13-, 26-, and 50-mile route options. Cost is $25 and includes Saturday’s activities.

 
Dillon Nature Center’s Lesser Know Lovelies plant sale wraps up this weekend – DNC members can shop Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The sale then opens to the public Saturday at 8 am. Shop 23 plant varieties designed to thrive in the hot Kansas summers.



 
The annual Canton Spring Market happens Saturday from 9 to 3 at the McPherson County Fairgrounds. Both indoor and outdoor vendors will offer unique, fun, and useful arts and crafts, boutique clothing, home and yard décor, health and beauty products, baked goods and more. Food trucks will be onsite as well.

 
Head to Lindsborg in Bloom for a groovy day featuring sidewalk sales, chalk art and face painting, and more. Celebrate the 60s style and explore downtown Lindsborg from 10 to 5. Enjoy funky tunes and yummy foods.
