Doris Ann Rue, 89, died September 17, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born November 21, 1936, in Codell, KS, to Richard Len and Beulah Lucille (Mead) Thomas.
Doris graduated from Palco High School in 1954. Throughout her life, she held a wide variety of jobs, including Program Director at the Salvation Army Senior Center, before retiring as a clerk at Reger Rental. She was an adult advisor/bus driver for Sing Out Reno County, and served as a Board of Director for People International.
Doris was ornery, spunky, full of life, and pleasantly blunt. She lived for her four grandsons, and together they made countless memories. She loved spending time with her friends and family. Her family was her greatest joy, and she leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories to cherish. Doris was a member of First Congregational Church, Hutchinson.
On November 6, 1955, she married Kenneth R. Rue in Plainville. They shared almost 58 years of marriage, prior to his death on March 14, 2013.
Doris is survived by: daughters, Peggy Fry (Rod) of Yoder and Penny Becker (Mark) of Hutchinson; son, Richard “Rick” Rue of Hutchinson; grandsons, Brad Fry (Ada), Tanner Rue (Jade), Michael Becker (Payge), and Dylan Becker (Ellissa); great-grandchildren, Vivian Fry and Clayton Henderson; step-grandchildren, Rachelle McKay (Shannon) and Jordan Geist (Julie); nine step-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sue Rue.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Kenneth; and brother, Donald Thomas.
The Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Plum, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice House or First Congregational Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
