Sterling, Kan. – The Bethany College men’s soccer team battled back with two second-half goals but fell to Sterling College, 6-2, Wednesday afternoon at Sterling. The Swedes moved to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Sterling struck early, scoring four goals in the opening 23 minutes to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Bethany goalkeeper Nikoloz Chitaia recorded six saves in the first half as the Swedes worked to keep the hosts within reach.
Bethany came out of the halftime break with renewed energy, scoring twice in a four-minute span to cut the deficit to two goals.
Kisasi Brooks opened the scoring for the Swedes in the 54th minute, finding the back of the net off a ball over Sterling’s backline to make it 4-1.
Just over three minutes later, Antonio Robles added Bethany’s second goal of the afternoon in the 57th minute. With Richard Livingston sliding the ball across the box to provide the assist, bringing the Swedes within two at 4-2.
Bethany continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, recording 13 shots after halftime. However, Sterling added two more goals, including one in the 77th minute, to secure the 6-2 victory.
Antonio Robles led the Swedes with two shots on goal and one goal scored, while Richard Livingston recorded a team-high six shots, including four on target, and an assist. Kisasi Brooks finished with two shots and one goal scored.
Nikoloz Chitaia made eight saves in the contest, including six in the opening half. Bethany finished with 18 total shots, 15 of which were on target, and earned four corner kicks.

The Swedes will look to regroup and prepare for their next match against Avila University on Saturday, September 19th, at 7:30PM as they continue their season.
