1955-2026
Julie A. Patrick McLain, 71, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 17, 1955, to Helen Eleanor (Uphhaus) and John Desmond Patrick.
In 1966, Julie’s family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she attended St. Jude School. She graduated from Bishop Carroll High School in 1973. Julie married John McLain in 1978, and together they moved to Park City, where they welcomed their sons, Patrick and Michael.
Julie graduated from Wichita State University in 1980 and began working for her brother, Bernie Patrick, at Mechanical Consultants, Inc. During her 37-year career, she designed mechanical systems for commercial buildings. Julie also served two years on the Colwich Zoning Board and eight years on the Colwich City Council. During retirement, she volunteered with the Colwich Lions Club, the Colwich Park Advisory Committee, and The Lord’s Diner.
Julie never met a person or a flower she didn’t like. She loved her family, the Colwich community, and her gardens, where she spent many happy hours.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John A. “Tony” Patrick.
Julie is survived by her husband, John; sons, Patrick (Christy) of Wichita and Michael (Janet) of Colwich; Nicole, daughter-in-law; seven grandchildren, Lily, Tate, Owen, Harper, Sadie, Thomas, and Kacy; her brother, Bernie (Julie) Patrick; and brother-in-law, Larry (Lois) McLain.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, and the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colwich, Kansas.
Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
