Kansas Crop Progress and Condition Report for the Week Ending August 16th

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the week ending August 16, 2026, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 25% very short, 35% short, 38% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 24% very short, 36% short, 39% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 12% very poor, 17% poor, 29% fair, 33% good, and 9% excellent. Corn silking was 94%, equal to last year, and near 95% for the five-year average. Dough was 78%, near 77% last year and 75% average. Dented was 41%, ahead of 35% last year and 34% average. Mature was 8%, ahead of 1% last year, and near 4% average.

Soybean condition rated 3% very poor, 11% poor, 32% fair, 45% good, and 9% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 88%, near 86% last year, and equal to average. Setting pods was 67%, equal to last year, and near 65% average.

Sorghum condition rated 11% very poor, 22% poor, 40% fair, 24% good, and 3% excellent. Sorghum headed was 62%, behind 70% both last year and average. Coloring was 20%, near 18% both last year and average.

Cotton condition rated 6% very poor, 16% poor, 41% fair, 30% good, and 7% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 89%, near 88% last year and 87% average. Bolls opening was 8%, equal to last year, and near 9% average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 12% very poor, 18% poor, 33% fair, 31% good, and 6% excellent.
