MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the week ending August 9, 2026, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 22% very short, 37% short, 36% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 20% very short, 35% short, 41% adequate, and 4% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 8% very poor, 15% poor, 30% fair, 35% good, and 12% excellent. Corn silking was 90%, near 89% last year and 91% for the five-year average. Dough was 67%, near 66% last year and 64% average. Dented was 25%, ahead of 19% last year and 17% average.
Soybean condition rated 2% very poor, 8% poor, 31% fair, 51% good, and 8% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 80%, near 78% last year and 82% average. Setting pods was 57%, ahead of 51% last year and 52% average.
Sorghum condition rated 6% very poor, 20% poor, 37% fair, 30% good, and 7% excellent. Sorghum headed was 48%, near 52% last year, and behind 55% average. Coloring was 16%, near 14% last year, and ahead of 11% average.
Cotton condition rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 35% fair, 37% good, and 12% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 87%, ahead of 69% last year and 75% average. Bolls opening was 5%, near 2% last year and 4% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 7% very poor, 20% poor, 34% fair, 33% good, and 6% excellent.
