1948-2026
Kathy Lynn Benbrook Durst took her place in heaven on July 15, 2026. She was born on September 2, 1948, in Halstead, Kansas to parents Jimmie Howard Benbrook and Betty Ruth (Perry) Benbrook, who preceded her in death.
After graduating from Halstead High School in 1966, Kathy attended Wichita State University and Salt City Business College, while employed at Skyline Corporation as a secretary. In 1969 Kathy met the love of her life, Richard Dwight Durst, an Air Force Airman. While on leave Kathy and Richard were married on July 12, 1969.
Although Kathy worked at other local businesses, her most rewarding position choice was her job as an executive secretary for The Bradbury Company in Moundridge, Kansas where she spent forty-four years making both local and international friendships.
While Kathy thoroughly enjoyed her work, she was most devoted and proud of her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Kathy and Richard had three daughters who survive; Nancy Elizabeth (Kyle) Estep, Wichita, Kansas, Ann Margaret (Brent) See, Burrton, Kansas, and Jennifer Rae (Donald) Hazelton of Marquette, Kansas.
Kathy and Richard actively supported and followed their children and grandchildren’s events and passions. When their girls were young Kathy and Richard spent many weekends camping at Westerman’s Springlake park where they made many lifelong friends and special memories.
Kathy is also survived by her grandchildren; Andrew (Alie) Durst, Alex Wright, Zachery (Lindsay) Wright, Quincy (Lindsey) Estep, Carter (Mikala Douglas-Eickhoff) Estep, Cody (Danielle) Hazelton, Jake Evenson, Libby Jo Estep, Ellana (Sean) See, Samantha See, Kynli See; great-grandchildren, Kenna and Kellan Durst, Waylon Wright, Henry Estep, Hadlee and Hensley Hazelton; her brother Danny Lee (Kathryn) Benbrook, and sister Mary Lisa (Kenny) Unruh, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kathy’s passing will forever leave a hole in our hearts and lives, and we will greatly miss her. But we find peace knowing she has taken her place with the Lord. The family finds comfort in knowing our memories will carry us through and that someday we will see her again.
