Kara Lynn Johnson, 69, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House of Reno County on July 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Kara was born on November 7, 1956, in Sterling, Kansas, to Vernon Dee Temple and Kay Frances Keevert Kennedy. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1974.

Kara was a true free spirit. She loved attending concerts, and rock and roll was always her music of choice. She enjoyed meeting people, loved going fast, and embraced life with enthusiasm. Above all, spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.

On February 15, 2003, Kara married the love of her life, Bryce Johnson, in Wichita, Kansas.

Kara is survived by her devoted husband, Bryce Johnson; her son, Temple (Rachel) Link, and their children, Drake Link, Aric Donovan, Tayla (Ethan) Saenz, and Maddox Link; her son, Levi (Lindsey) Gillespie, and their children, Addysyn, Kallie, and Kimberly Gillespie; her daughter, Jayme Gillespie, and her son, Colter Bell; her sisters, Emily (Chris) Gillespie, Karen (Dennis) Buccella, Kala (Phillip) Wright, and Monica Johnston; her brother, Stephen Temple; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dee Temple and Kay Kennedy; her step-parents, Dorothy Kay Temple and Robert Frederick Kennedy; her sister, Elizabeth Kaye Cook; and her brother, Kerby Jay Kennedy.

Kara will be laid to rest at Peace Cemetery, southwest of Sterling, Kansas, beside her lifelong friend, Daisy Dolezal.

A Celebration of Kara’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Celebration Centre, 1145 US Highway 56, Lyons, Kansas 67554.
