Team Kansas captured the High School Baseball National Championship Series on Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Florida at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, finishing an impressive 5-1 week against some of the nation’s top high school talent.
The invitation-only event featured many of the country’s top high school players, with each state’s roster selected by its coordinator and loaded with Division I commits and prospects.
Kansas, the No. 6 seed, defeated Nebraska, Texas, North Carolina, Arizona and top-seeded Florida on its way to the national championship. The title game was broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
Blue Valley Southwest’s Brock Bailey earned Championship MVP honors after throwing a complete game in the title contest. Maize’s Drake Blasi drove in a run, Wichita Collegiate’s Maddox Drumright added a hit and Wichita Collegiate’s Jacob Stehley collected an RBI in the championship victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Maize’s Quincey Koehn threw five scoreless innings in the opening win over Nebraska, while Mulvane’s Brody Clasen recorded key relief appearances, including closing out Kansas’ comeback victory over North Carolina to help send Team Kansas to the semifinals.
Kansas’ run through the bracket showcased the strength of the state’s top baseball talent, as Team Kansas defeated four traditional baseball powers — Texas, North Carolina, Arizona and Florida — on its way to the national title.
