James Edward Barton, 90, passed away on January 19, 2026, at his home in Pueblo, Colorado.
Jim was born June 17, 1935, in Burlington, Kansas, the son of Allen and Cora Barton.
He grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High school in 1953. He served in the United States Army, mostly in France. He then returned to Kansas where he married Annetta Young and attended the University of Kansas majoring in journalism. He and Annetta were the parents of two daughters, Ann and Susan.
He moved to Glenwood, Iowa, in 1960, where he worked in journalism and photography. There he married Bonnie Hawk and had two daughters, Jean and Brenda. He later married Virginia Brown and had two daughters, Cathy and Melony. In 1989 he moved to Colorado and lived in Woodland Park, Walsenburg, and Pueblo.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his six daughters; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma; many other relati9ves and friends.
Jim loved his family, sports, music, traveling, and adventure. He was known for his great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
