HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Hutchinson may take another step toward addressing housing next week. City officials have scheduled a public hearing for next Tuesday, June 16, to discuss the proposed “Meadows on Monroe” Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID).
The project, which aims to boost new residential development, is in response to a 2024 housing needs assessment that highlighted a lack of quality housing options within the city.
The proposed district is slated for development on the east side of North Monroe Street, situated between West 30th Avenue and West 43rd Avenue. The public hearing will allow officials to consider the formal adoption of the development plan, which includes both residential housing and supporting public facilities, as well as the official designation of the district.
The path to this hearing began earlier this year, with the Kansas Secretary of Commerce approving the RHID concept in January. Following that approval, the Hutchinson City Council officially moved to set the hearing date during their May 5th meeting.
In looking at the agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting, it appears that the City of Hutchinson staff will recommend that the public hearing be continued to the July 7th meeting of the council due to the development agreement and other documents still being finalized.
