Linda Kay Birk
1948-2026

Linda Kay Birk, 76, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, surrounded by her family and love at the Life Care Center in Burlington.

She was born July 7, 1949, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Daniel W. and Margaret Ann (Shoemaker) Long. She grew up on the family farm in the Piqua area of Woodson County, attended St. Martin Catholic School, and graduated from Yates Center High School.

On May 25, 1968, she married the love of her life, Edward Eugene Birk, at Piqua. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and hospitality. They made their home in Burlington, where they raised their four children and spent more than fifty years working side by side.

Linda worked alongside Eddie farming, raising hogs, putting up hay, and helping build Birk Oil Company, which they founded in 1980. She had a servant’s heart and was happiest when caring for others. Whether feeding farmhands, oil field crews, family, friends, or unexpected guests, no one ever left Linda’s table hungry.

Linda and Eddie joined Burlington Christian Church in 1975. She faithfully served through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, funeral dinners, and countless acts of kindness. She lived her faith through service and generosity.

Linda was especially known for her homemade cinnamon rolls, which became a favorite among family, friends, church members, and anyone fortunate enough to receive one. She found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than gathering family together, celebrating holidays, hosting Christmas parties, sharing meals, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

Her husband, Edward, preceded her in death on September 25, 2020, following 52 years of marriage.

She leaves her children, Brian Birk (Laura), Danielle Birk, Darrin Birk (Megan), and Justin Birk (Ashlee), all of Burlington; grandchildren, Dale Birk (Summer), Jessica Thomsen (Blake), Baylor Ernst, Molly Birk, Koby Birk, Cohen Birk, and Blayze Birk; great-grandchildren, Bo, Kruize, Gracie, and Kyzer Thomsen, and Sophie and Kenna Birk; her sister, Maleta Brockus of Olathe, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Linda’s family will remember her as the sweetest soul, a devoted wife and mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and a woman whose kindness, faith, and generous spirit touched countless lives.

Graveside services for Linda will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Graceland Cemetery in Burlington.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Burlington Christian Church and sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
