Gayle Hoglund
1957-2026

Gayle D. Hoglund, 68, of Topeka, KS, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 1, 2026.

She was born on August 30, 1957, in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Armwell “Bud” Edward and Dorothy May (Mosteller) Lundstrom. Gayle graduated from McPherson High School in 1975 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Kansas State University. On May 28, 1977, she was united in marriage to Gregory S. Hoglund. Together, they were blessed with two children, Mike and Jill.

Gayle devoted her professional life to elementary education with Topeka Public Schools (USD 501). Throughout her career, she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, kindness, and encouragement. She retired in 2019 after many years of faithfully serving children and families in her community. Teaching was more than a profession to Gayle—it was a calling, and she genuinely loved working with children.

She had a compassionate heart and was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether family, friend, or stranger, Gayle never hesitated to step in and help at the drop of a hat. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Gayle also had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, and she recently welcomed a cat into her home. She enjoyed traveling and especially cherished her trip to Alaska and was looking forward to more adventures.

Above all else, Gayle treasured her family. She was immensely proud of her children and the wonderful people they became. Her greatest joy was being “Nana” to her grandchildren, whom she adored wholeheartedly. Her family will fondly remember her delicious cherry chocolate cake, her love of Christmas, and the way she lovingly kept Swedish traditions alive while bringing her family together year after year.

Gayle’s warmth, compassion, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

She is survived by her children, Mike Hoglund (Amber) of Topeka, KS and Jill Winkleman (Josh) of St. Mary’s, KS; and four grandchildren, Morgan Winkleman, Hunter Hoglund, Miles Hoglund, and Hannah Hoglund.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, with Pastor Peter Rehwaldt officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service time. Following the service, burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Memorial donations can be payable to the American Heart Association and can be mailed to Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
