The Little River High School boys and girls track teams both placed second at the Wheat State League championships Thursday at Herington.
The Little River boys were outscored by Goessel 156 points to 151 for the team title and the Little River girls were outscored by Rural Vista 158 points to 116.
The Canton-Galva boys and girls teams both placed third with 84 and 86 points. The Goessel girls finished fourth with 59.
Little River freshman Dempsey Lafferty set a new league record in the javelin with a first-place throw of 139 feet, 9 inches. According to Sports in Kansas, Lafferty now holds the No. 1 freshman girls javelin throw in the nation with the 139-9 effort.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Havana Olander, Adelynne Strecker, Dempsey Lafferty and Abby Schroeder placed first with a time of 4 minutes, 14.65 seconds.
Schroeder placed first in the girls 800 (2:27.82). Strecker and Olander were first and second in the long jump (16-5 and 16-0.25). Olander and Jolie Myers placed first and second in the triple jump (35-11 and 33-1).
Avery Lafferty placed second in the shot put (34-2). The 4×100 relay team placed second (51.79) and the 4×800 relay team placed third (15:01.49).
Myers placed second in the 200 (28.59) and third in the 100 (13.65). Saelyn Raleight was third in the 200 (28.81). Brooke White was third in the 400 (1:10.38) and fourth in the 200 (30.03).
Eisley Ewertt was fourth in the 100 hurdles (19.4) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (53.59). Evie Look was fourth in the discus (88-7).
Little River’s Christopher Norez placed first in the boys javelin with a new league record and school record throw of 195 feet, 11 inches. He broke his old school record of 188-8 set on April 23 at the Sterling Relays.
Kal-El Robinson, Jhett Ewertt and Logan Schubert placed first, third and fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.74, 11.85 and 11.86). Ewertt and Robinson placed third and fourth in the 200 (24.17 and 24.36). Schubert placed second in the 300 hurdles (42.74).
Ewertt was second, Nash Look fourth and Gage Martinez sixth in the triple jump (38-11.25, 37-9 and 36-3.25).
The Little River boys 4×100 relay team placed second (44.65), the 4×400 relay was third (3:48.3) and the 4×800 relay was third (11:45.26).
Little River’s Ty Janette was second in the high jump (5-10). Cole Dieball oplaced third in the shot put (50-11). Jaren Garrison was fourth in the javelin (120-6) and fifth in the shot put (42-11). Bryson VanEaton was sixth in the shot put (42-4).
Duncan Olander was was sixth in the 800 (2:15.57).
