Eldena Jean Stevens, 93, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away April 7, 2026, in Harlingen, Texas. She was born April 30, 1931, to Eldon and Gracy Lee Compton in Tyrone, Oklahoma.
In 1958, Eldena began her lifelong journey selling Tupperware. She quickly became known as the “Tupperware Lady” in the Hutchinson and Yoder areas. Eldena was still hosting Tupperware parties well into her 90s. She also taught several classes on quilting and helped at Bill’s Sewing Center and Country Fabrics in Pleasantview.
On August 26, 1948, Eldena Compton married Jim Stevens. They were married for 69 years before his passing in 2017. Eldena was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ at Eastwood and Walnut and Campbell here in Hutchinson and the Church of Christ in Harlingen, TX.
She is survived by her daughters, Theda Barbe and Diana Stringer; daughter-in-law, Sue Stevens; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends she considered family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jack Compton; her sons, Duane Stevens and Gordon Stevens; her grandsons, Jesse Barbe and Jackson Caskey; and her great-grandson, Jeremiah Barbe.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Partridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
