McPherson, Kan. – The Tiger Men’s Volleyball team was at home this past weekend for just the second time this season tp host Hastings College and Avila University in a 3 team triangular.
Against Hastings, the Tigers were swept 3-0 but showed early competitiveness, especially in the opening set. The Tigers kept it tight early, trading points before falling 27-25, but Hastings’ offensive efficiency took over in the final two sets. The Tigers struggled to generate consistent kills with 25 total compared to Hastings’ 44, and their hitting percentage dropped significantly as the match went on, allowing Hastings to pull away 25-18 and 25-22 to close it out.
In the match with Avila, the Tigers were more competitive and pushed the match to four sets before falling 3-1. After dropping the first set 25–21, the Tigers responded with a strong second set winning 25-21 behind improved offensive rhythm. However, Avila’s attack depth of 42 kills and 11 total aces shifted momentum back, as they took the final two sets 25-20 and 25-19. The Tigers stayed close statistically but couldn’t match Avila’s consistency in key scoring runs.
The Tigers are now 1-24 on the season and will be in California on Wednesday and Thursday playing in the Cal-Pac seeding jamboree looking to earn 1 of 4 spots in the Cal-Pac tournament.
