SHARE NOW

A small area of south-central Kansas saw some very heavy rain and some damage late Saturday afternoon and early evening after an isolated severe storm developed. Rotation from that storm prompted issuance of a tornado warning for southeast Reno County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a semi-rollover just after 5 PM at K-14 and Parallel Road just west of Cheney Lake, which unconfirmed reports indicated may have been caused by a tornado. Reno County Emergency Management also reported power lines down in the area of Parallel and Victory Roads in the southeast corner of the county.

Winds of 70 to 80 miles an hour were reported by the National Weather Service as the storm moved east into parts of Harvey and Sedgwick counties. Golf ball sized hail was reported in Mount Hope, and power poles were snapped and lines down near 295th Street West and 93rd Street North, about a mile southwest of Mount Hope.

Nearly 3 ¾ inches of rain was reported in Mount Hope with street flooding observed, with rainfall of in excess of two inches observed from north of Penalosa east into Sedgwick County, with two inches reported near Haven.
