Larry F. Myers,85, of Independence, Kansas, known as "Butch," departed this life on Wednesday April 8, 2026, at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas.
Larry Frank Myers was born on November 24, 1940, in Watseka, Illinois, to Elmer and Agnes (Howe) Myers. Larry’s life was marked by dedication to his work, deep family bonds, and a love for the simple pleasures of fishing.
A graduate of Watseka High School, Class of 1959, Larry went on to build a meaningful career, retiring from the Kansas Department of Transportation, where he served in the highway maintenance department. He also contributed his expertise as a parts salesman at O’Malley Equipment.
Larry’s personal life was enriched by his enduring marriage to Rosamond "Dit" (Porter) Myers, with whom he shared many cherished years since their wedding on October 26, 1963. Together, they nurtured a loving family that stands as a testament to their commitment and care.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosamond "Dit" Myers, of their home in Independence, Kansas; his son, Michael (Toni) Myers, of Independence; and daughter, Kerry (Kevin) Bodwell of Atwood, Tennessee. Larry took great pride in his growing family, which includes four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He was also a cherished presence in the lives of two step-granddaughters and five step-great-grandchildren.
Larry’s surviving siblings include Lon Myers of England and Sara Sloan of Shawnee Mission, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elmer and Agnes (Howe) Myers; brothers Kenneth, Jerry "Jake," Bobby, and Dave Myers; and sister Patsy Giroux.
A man of humble interests, Larry found joy and peace in fishing — a pastime that not only allowed him to connect with nature but also brought moments of reflection and contentment.
Services to honor Larry Frank Myers’ life will be held on Saturday April 11, 2026, beginning with visitation at Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Lutheran Cemetery on North Pennsylvania Avenue in Independence.
Larry “Butch” Myers will be remembered for his steady character, his love of family, and the quiet dignity with which he lived his days. His memory will remain a blessing to those who knew and loved him.
