STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College fell to Evangel University with a final score of 63-80 on Saturday, Feb. 21 in the final game of the season for the Warriors. Despite the loss, Sterling made 13 three-pointers, but it was unable to overcome Evangel’s 53.4% shooting from the field.

The Warriors began the first half with an assertive defensive play, as Damond Daniels stole the ball immediately after Evangel won the tip. Despite the early defensive momentum, Sterling struggled to find their shooting rhythm, going 8-for-28 from the field and committing eight turnovers. The team did find some success from the bench, contributing 21 points, with Ziri Blackwood leading a few scoring efforts, including a key three-pointer at 16:06.

As the half progressed, Sterling managed to cut into Evangel’s lead with a series of three-pointers and free throws. Notably, Julian Smith and Blackwood made significant contributions from beyond the arc. However, Evangel capitalized on Sterling’s turnovers and maintained control, ending the half with a 43-27 advantage.

In the second half, Sterling initiated their efforts with Camden Carr securing a steal at 18:26, but Evangel quickly responded, extending their lead through effective layups and free throws. Smith’s offensive prowess was evident with multiple successful three-pointers, narrowing the gap slightly. Despite this, Valor maintained their edge, capitalizing on key opportunities to score. As the half progressed, Smith continued to be instrumental, both in scoring and assisting, evidenced by his three-pointer at the 0:59 mark, which concluded a late surge.

The half ended with Valror holding a lead, as the Warriors trailed 80-63 by the close of the second half.
