McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College of Kansas Women’s Basketball team hosted Nelson University last night in the final weekend of the regular season. The Lions came to town in search of a win to tie them atop the SAC Standings while the Tigers looked to snap a seven game losing streak and end the season on a high note.
Charmayne Marshall got the crowd fired up early as she drilled two three pointers on the first two Tiger possessions. The Tigers would build off this momentum and continue their scoring efforts to the tune of a 22-17 lead after one quarter. They built up the lead on 52% shooting and four made three pointers in the quarter.
The second quarter proved to be much of the same as the Tigers shot 46% and forced turnovers and forced Nelson to defend them more closely. The Tigers would outscore the Lions 16-14 in the quarter to take a 38-31 lead into the halftime break.
Nelson seemed to make adjustments as they forced more turnovers and attacked the basket. The Lions started to flip the script as they shot 60% from the field while scoring 22 points to trim their deficit to just three points heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was where the Tigers stumbled, making just one shot in 12 attempts allowing the Lions back into the game. Nelson took advantage on the boards as they outrebounded the Tigers 43-36 and this proved to be a difference maker.
The Tigers were led offensively by Kylee Jones who had 18 points. Charmayne Marshall added 11 while Cristina Laudan had 10 as well as 3 blocks.
The Tigers fall to 6-21 (2-19 SAC) and close the regular season at home on Saturday against Texas Wesleyan University. Tip-off is set for 2pm and the game will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network and the SAC Sports Network.
