The largest high school in the state traveled to the small Central Kansas town of Little River for a girls basketball game that received a lot of buildup and attention.
It was a matchup between the fifth-ranked Class 6A, the Wichita East Blue Aces, and the top-raked ranked class 1A Division 1, Little River Redskins, and the battle did not disappoint as East won 61-55.
Both teams battled adrenaline in a low-scoring first quarter that saw East jump out to a 15-12 lead, but at half, Little River tied it up with a 3-pointer just before the buzzer, making it 30-30.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle with both teams fighting through some foul trouble, but the Blue Aces led at one point in the fourth by as many as eight points.
Little River fought their way back, making it a two-point game midway through the fourth, but the Aces hit some big shots down the stretch, and senior point guard Quinacy Galbert went 4-4 from the free-throw line in the last minute of playing time to seal the victory.
Both teams then came together and intermingled for a big group photo in what was one of the best moments witnessed. The crowd also gave a standing ovation to all of the girls for their efforts and a terrific night of entertainment.
East was led in scoring by freshman Jada Davis with 20 points, who is already receiving Division 1 attention. Davis hit four three-point shots, and was a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line.
Little River was led by their senior commit to Fort Hays State, Arika Feldman, who had 19 points on the night.
