Southeast of Saline jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first period. They led by as many as 11 points early in the second quarter before Lyons finally regained their offensive flow and came back to force overtime, but Southeast of Saline would win 60-58.
SES led 29-23 at halftime. Lyons cut the lead to 37-36 by the end of the third period. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair with Lyons having a shot at the buzzer to end regulation for the win, but the shot rimmed off to send the game to overtime. SES hit several critical free throws in the final minute to secure the hard-fought win.
SES was led in scoring by Tiernan Ptacek with 27 points on 11 field goals and 5 of 8 from the charity stripe. Also in double figures for the Trojans was Adam Thiel with 14 points.
Lyons had two players in double figures, as Paco Espinoza also had 27 points. Tegan Link had 12 points.
Southeast of Saline improves to 3-7 and 2-3 in the league. Lyons while falls to 4-6 on the season and 1-4 in the NCAA league. Lyons will travel to Belleville to play Republic County on Friday while SES will host Clay Center.
Southeast of Saline girls 74, Lyons 22
The SES Trojans picked up their seventh win of the season as they handled the Lyons Lions in an NCAA league contest.
The Trojans jumped to a 27-6 lead after the first quarter and led 46-11 at halftime. Southeast of Saline had very balanced scoring and had 10 players get points.
The Trojans were led in scoring by Taryn Goetz off the bench with 12 points. She was followed Kyiah Samuelson and Suttyn Douglas each with 10.
The leading scorers for Lyons were Keirah Davis and Hayden Linden each with six points.
SES is now 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in league play. Lyons drops to 1-9 on the season and 0-5 in the league.
