GOODLAND, Kan. — A long-time radio voice in northwest Kansas has gone silent after its tower collapsed over the weekend. The tower of KLOE 730 in Goodland had been damaged during the December 17-18 windstorms which shattered insulators on their broadcast tower west of Goodland causing it to lean.
Additional strong winds over the weekend caused the just over 300-foot self-supporting tower to shift and fall into a nearby wheat field.
Due to the significant costs involved in constructing a new tower and “realities facing AM broadcasting today,” Kansas Broadcast Company LLC, which acquired the station last year, announced that the 75 + year old KLOE 730 AM will go permanently silent. The company says it will continue features of the station on its Goodland FM station.
Kansas Broadcast Company also owns stations in Colby, Dodge City and Liberal and is partly affiliated in ownership with KFMR/KCLY in Clay Center.
