Leading by four points in the final minute, conventional wisdom says milk the clock and try to draw fouls.
Trinity Catholic freshman Lawson Dowsey ignored that Friday during the Celtics’ home opener.
Leading by four, Dowsey shot a 3-pointer with about 55 seconds left in the fourth quarter. He sank it, the final of his 15 points, and the Celtics beat Haven 55-46.
Trinity led almost the entire game, but Haven never went away. The Wildcats got within a point in the fourth quarter, and even had a chance to take the lead, but Trinity’s Matt Armour had a steal, and Cameron Kiser scored at the other end.
Kiser led Trinity with a career-best 19 points.
The Celtics improved to 1-1 and will take on Pratt on Monday. Haven, which had 14 points from Logan Jacques, fell to 0-2.
