STERLING, Kan. — Sterling College fell to Ottawa University 4-0 on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the final game of the season. Despite a strong defensive performance with 12 saves from Sterling’s goalkeeper, the home team was unable to find the back of the net. The Braves capitalized on their 16 shots on goal, scoring twice in each half to secure the victory.
The first half commenced with Ottawa taking an early lead, netting a goal in the 3rd minute through Simon Kindt. Sterling responded with offensive efforts, including a corner kick by Jonathan Torres and a shot from Floyd Ransom. The home side continued to press, as Torres forced a save from Ottawa’s goalkeeper, David Martinez, in the 15th minute.
Later in the half, Cassidy Kelly stood firm in goal for Sterling, making multiple saves to keep the deficit manageable. Despite these efforts, the Braves doubled their lead in the 39th minute with a goal from Daniel Raja. The half concluded with Sterling trailing 2-0.
The second half began with Sterling attempting to shift the momentum through a corner kick by Torres in the 46th minute. Despite these efforts, Ottawa University extended their lead with a goal by Kindt in the 49th minute, assisted by Jevan Purcell-Jackso. Sterling’s attempts at goal, including shots by Jeanluis Modesto and Jose Pacheco, did not find the net.
Ottawa continued to press, adding a second goal in the half through Purcell-Jackso at the 68th minute. Sterling responded with several attempts on goal from Bailey Allen and Torres, but the Braves’ defense held firm. The game closed with Sterling trailing, with the scoreboard reading 4-0 in favor of Ottawa.
Cassidy Kelly recorded 11 saves during the game, facing 16 shots on target. Torres led the team with six shots, three of which were on goal. Ransom added two shots, with one on target.
Sterling finished the season with a record of 5-11-1 overall and 3-10 in conference.
