Joey Senstock belted another home run Monday, his third in four games, and the Hutchinson Monarchs downed the Wichita Wildcats 10-4 at Hobart-Detter Field.
The game was started on June 23 but was suspended due to weather, with the Monarchs leading 3-1 with one out in the bottom of the first inning.
The Monarchs immediately added to that lead, as on the first pitch Monday, Dylan Bell grounded out, which scored Jackson Legg.
The next inning, Senstock belted a solo home run, which came right after Jeter Worthley grounded out, scoring Jarrett Herrmann, who had tripled.
The Wildcats hung around and trailed 7-4 going to the eighth inning. But the Monarch answered with three runs. Herrmann’s sacrifice fly scored Jake Gutierrez, and Bell’s RBI fielder’s choice and subsequent error scored JJ Spafford and Bell.
Aidan Sowers was the winning pitcher, as he threw five innings, officially in relief of Carson Harrell, who threw the first inning. Sowers allowed one run on three hits while striking out two.
The Monarchs improved to 20-5 overall and 18-5 in the Jayhawk Collegiate League. With nine games remaining, their magic number to win the league is seven, as they have a three-game lead on second-place Derby.
