The Hutchinson High softball team put together its best day of the season Monday, winning both games of a triangular with Andover Central and Kapaun Mount Carmel at Fun Valley Sports Complex.
The Salthawks first beat Andover Central 7-3, as Brooke Hogan had three hits and drove in four runs. She hit a three-run home run and also had a double.
Kohlbie Craft pitched a complete game for the Salthawks, giving up seven hits and one earned run.
Craft’s bat was instrumental in the Salthawks’ 13-8 win over Kapaun. She belted two doubles and added a pair of singles, pacing Hutch’s 16-hit attack.
Hutchinson was swept in a Tuesday doubleheader against Salina Central, falling 11-0 and 6-3. The Salthawks are now 5-17 head to Friday’s games at Derby.
Baseball –Â The Salthawks took the Salina tour and came away with a split.
Friday, Hutchinson lost 4-3 at Salina South before beating the Cougars 6-3. Tuesday, Hutchinson smacked Salina Central 14-4 before the Mustangs came back in the second game and won 5-4 in extra innings.
The Salthawks are 10-9 and will host a triangular Friday at Hobart-Detter field, with Andale/Garden Plain and Haven making the trip. The three teams are coached by Krol brothers, with Mace coaching Hutchinson, Adam coaching Andale/Garden Plain and Noah coaching Haven.
Soccer –Â The Salthawks earned a quality win last week against Valley Center, as a Rhyan Galyon hat trick propelled the Salthawks to a 3-2 overtime win.
Tuesday, Hutch fell 4-0 to state power Maize South. The loss dropped Hutchinson to the No. 6 seed in the 5A West regional standings. Thursday, the Salthawks head to Derby.
Boys golf –Â Hutch came in eighth place at the 12-team Derby Invitational on Monday at Derby Golf and Country Club.
Hutchinson finished with a 361 but was just 10 strokes behind fourth-place Derby.
Mitchell Rice led the Salthawks with an 81, which placed him tied for sixth.
Girls swimming –Â The Salthawks performed well at the deep Topeka West Invite, finishing in third place with 256 points.
The Salthawks won two events, including the 400-yard freestyle relay. Alayna Wiggins, Julianna Stivers, Morgan Most and AJ Gooch won by more than five seconds in a time of 4 minutes, 13.3 seconds.
Emma Buller won the 500 freestyle (6:22.86).
