Shirley A. (Silor) Barton

Shirley Arthulee (Silor) Barton was born on January 1, 1937 in Pampa, Texas. She went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2024, dying peacefully at her daughter’s home in Wichita, Kansas. Shirley grew up in Sulphur, Louisiana and graduated from Sulphur High School in 1955. She married Bob Barton in March of 1955 and had her only daughter, Vicki, at the air force base in Lake Charles, Louisiana the following December. She lived in many places over the years, eventually calling Wichita, Kansas her home in 1987. Shirley lived her life to the fullest. She radiated joy and always knew what was important in life. Before retiring in 2014, she was a waitress at Spears Family Restaurant for 26 years and cherished her customers. Doing what she loved most, her pride and joy was spending time with her family. She loved going to her grandkids sporting events, choir concerts, dance recitals, and music theater productions. She loved tea and ice cream parties with her great grandkids and playing at the park with them. In her free time, she enjoyed going to Music Theater of Wichita, listening and dancing to old records, and taking care of her kitties. She was the most incredible Mom and Mawmaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a faithful best friend to her sister, Betty. She was consistently filled with joy and gratitude, and continuously lived out her faith in the Lord. She has inspired us all to live each day a little more grateful, finding pure delight in the simple pleasures of this life.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Allie Silor, her two brothers Conway and Bob Silor, 7 great grand-babies, and the love of her life, Bob Barton. She is survived by her daughter Vicki (Pat) Preboth of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren Christopher (Amber) Preboth, Christina (Philip) Kubish, and Carissa (Ryan) Bezdek and 9 great-grandchildren, all of Andover, Kansas; and her sister, Betty Borgardt of Hammond, Louisiana.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 10:30am. Location is at NewSpring Church – North Auditorium, 12200 E. 21st St. North, Wichita, KS 67206.
