Sharon Jean Simmons, 75 passed away surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Earlton, Kansas on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
Sharon Jean Simmons was born on October 19, 1949 to Richard and Louise (Packard) Kinney. Sharon graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, Kansas in 1966. On February 20, 1980, Sharon married Larry Simmons, the two were married 40 years until his passing in 2020. Sharon dedicated her life to her children and family. She loved joking around with everyone, going dancing, camping and fishing. She was an excellent maker of ceramics; many family members were gifted a ceramics piece handcrafted by her. Holidays and birthdays were special to Sharon, she loved when her entire family got together to celebrate. Sharon had a special love for her grandchildren, her eyes lit up every time she saw them. She loved showering them with gifts and hugs and kisses. Sharon’s love of children did not stop with her own family. She donated regularly to Children’s Mercy and to the Walter Ministries. Sharon’s contribution built a teacher’s quarters for the Legacy School in Uganda.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Simmons, son, Larry Don Simmons, parents, Richard and Louise Kinney, and brothers, Keith, Daryl and Alvin Kinney.
Sharon’s legacy of love will withstand the years with her children, Richard Allen, Wade Wilson, Sonuahua Compton, Rick Wilson, and Roxanne Brown, brothers, David and Roy Kinney, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home in Chanute on Thursday, November 14th, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Countryside Funeral Home on Friday, November 15th at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at Earlton Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Sharon’s name to Walter’s Ministries, www.walterministries.org and can be left with the funeral home.
