Anne Elaine Muse (August 12, 1935 – June 12, 2025)

Anne Muse was born August 12, 1935 to Earl and Myrtle (Hobbs) Campbell in Hutchinson, Kansas. They lived on a farm between Burrton and Mount Hope, Kansas. Anne had a brother, Lyle, who was 8 years older, and a sister, Ruth, who was 5 years older. Another sister, Jean, who was 3 years older, passed away at the age of 8 due to injuries resulting from falling off a horse. Anne attended Star School, a country grade school about a mile from the Campbell farm and graduated from Burrton High School in 1952. Anne graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in business education and a minor in piano.

Anne married Charles Kenneth Muse on June 17, 1956 at the Burrton Methodist Church. Anne taught business at the high school in Severy, Kansas during the 1956-57 school year. Next year, when Charles was inducted into the United States Army, Anne followed him around to four different bases in south central United States, and then joined him for a year in Bad Kreuznach, Germany when he was stationed there.

Anne and Charles had two children: Marilyn in 1959 and Roger in 1962. Anne supervised the household as they lived in two different places in Cedar Vale, Kansas, two different places in Sterling, Kansas, five different places in Wichita, Kansas during the summers when Charles was pursuing his master’s degree, and three different places in the Topeka, Kansas area. The final house there was one they designed and had built themselves. Anne worked at Conger Dental Supply in Topeka, Kansas from 1974 – 1988. She then worked for Tom Ford, CPA from 1988 – 1990, until that firm merged with the accounting firm of Braunsdorf, Carlson, and Clinkinbeard, and then continued working for the new firm for another year. Anne’s last job was working for the Records Center of the Kansas Department of Agriculture from 1994 – 2000.

Anne was a long-time member of Highland Park United Methodist Church during the Topeka years, where she served as piano accompanist for the children’s, youth, and adult choirs for a great number of years. She also held positions of leadership in the Church Women’s organization. Anne and Charles moved to St. Louis in 2013.

Survivors include daughter Marilyn (Brad) Short and son Roger (Donna) Muse, five grandchildren – Kaitlin Muse (John Coker), Renee (Tobias) Blomberg, Hayley Muse, AJ Short, and Hannah Muse, as well as two great-grandchildren – Axel Blomberg and Eva Blomberg.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Mt. Hope Cemetery (28700 W. 93rd Street N Mount Hope, Kansas 67108).
