1939-2024
Ronald Charles Soeken, 85, passed away November 4, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 8, 1939, to William and Mamie (Kootz) Soeken. He has an older brother, Cecil Soeken. Ron married Peggy (Olds) from Wilson on August 12, 1964. They moved to the family farm in Ellsworth County where Ron spent his life as a wheat and cattle farmer. After 58 years of farming, Ron and Peggy retired to Maize, Kansas. In August, they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Ron attended Lorraine Elementary/High School and then graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from Fort Hays State University. In college, he was part of Gamma Delta, a Lutheran Youth Group. He also was a member of the Fort Hays basketball and track team. After graduating college, Ron joined the Army where he was stationed in Germany. Ron was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Holyrood where he served as an Elder and Chairman of the Congregation. He was also a member of AAL (Aide Association of Lutherans) and the director of Lutheran Youth ministry. He was a member of the American League in Holyrood. Ron also served on the Green Garden Township and Lorraine Coop Board. Ron enjoyed playing cards with his card buddies and supporting all his grandchildren’s activities.
Ron and Peggy have 3 daughters: Kristin Webb, Sandra Barton, and Cinda (Joe) Lohmann. They are also blessed with 7 grandchildren: Kelsey Webb, Jacob (Sabina) Webb, Joseph (Crystal) Barton, Alexander Barton, Chase Lohmann, Brett Lohmann, and Brynna Lohmann. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mamie (Kootz) Soeken; father and mother-in-law, Francis and Gladys (Heinze) Olds; and sister-in-law, Jan Soeken. Ron is survived by his wife, brother, daughters and grandchildren as well as a brother and sister-in-law, Alan (Wilma) Olds, and 6 nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services with a luncheon following will be held at 11am on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N. Tyler, Wichita, KS 67212. There will be a private burial at a later date. Memorials may be sent to: Ascension Lutheran Church. Floral designs are from Moore Flowers in Wichita.
