Robert Jay Barker, 77, passed away September 3, 2024 in Larned.
He was born April 12, 1947 in Larned, the son of Fred H. and Norma L. Turpen Barker. A lifetime area resident; he worked for Halliburton for 20 ½ years and then worked for City of Larned for 22 ½ years in the water department, retiring as the Water Supervisor.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned and was a Fireman for the Great Bend Fire Department in his early years, before working for Halliburton. He loved farming, hunting, fishing and running security for Carr Auction. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, taking them hunting and fishing and attending their activities. Bob never knew a stranger and could talk to anyone.
On March 26, 1982 he married Pamela Leason in Kinsley; she survives.
Other survivors include; his mother, Norma L. Barker, Larned; two sons, Duane Allen (Stephanie) Barker, Kingwood, TX and Matthew Robert Barker, Great Bend; three daughters, Dana Barker, Porter, TX, Rebecca (Joseph) Stewart, Larned and Caroline (Jeremy) Williams, Garfield; a sister, Diana Lynn (Allen) Selfridge, Hanston and nine grandchildren, Reid, Yates, McKenna, Andrew, Alexis, Michael, Leighton, Colton and Brody.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Fred H. Barker and a brother, M. Duane Barker.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary with Pastor David Spare presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 12:00 pm to 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be at a later date.
