Robert “Bob” Jones
1947-2024
Robert L. “Bob” Jones, 77, of Marquette, KS, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024. He was born on February 11, 1947 in Pittsburg, KS, the son of Leslie and Barbara (Beauchamp) Jones.

Bob attended Pittsburg schools, graduating from Pittsburg Senior High School in 1965 and Pittsburg State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in social work.

He was a certified health facility surveyor traveling 23 counties in Kansas to skilled nursing homes, nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and hospitals. He was a licensed baccalaureate social worker for 34 years, a trained sanitarian and a trained dietician. He also worked in a variety of other settings including hospital administrator for Lindsborg Community Hospital from 1985 to 1987 and a medical social worker for Southeast Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital at Chanute from 1974 to 1975.

Bob retired from his work with the state of Kansas, serving three agencies (SRS, KDHE, and KDOA), December 14, 2006, after 35 years of service. Following retirement, Bob had many part time jobs, including selling cars. Overall, he sold 371 cars, averaging 74.2 sales each year.

Bob married Carol Martin on October 16, 1977 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette. She survives. They were blessed to share 46 years together. Three sons were born to them, Adam (Hannah) of Galva, KS, Jared (Nancy) of Roxbury, KS, and Brady (Jenna) of Smolan, KS. They blessed them with 7 grandchildren (Dallas, Trevor, Hunter, Maybelle, Josephine, Parker, Augustus). They all survive.

Other survivors include: 2 sisters, JoAnne Engelland of Paducah, KY and Debbie Smith of Pittsburg, KS, Uncle Joe Beauchamp of Pittsburg, KS, and Aunt Mary Deill of Pittsburg, KS. Numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces also survive.

Bob was a sports nut, always cheering for KU in basketball. He supported his kids and grandkids in all their activities and loved spending time with his family. He loved the sports seasons, football PSU Gorillas and the KC Chiefs, basketball and the Jayhawks, baseball and the KC Royals.

He loved attending the games and watching them on TV, cheering loudly when something good happened. Bob was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, since 1977, serving as a lector and usher when called upon. He served on church council, city council and was a member of Marquette Lions Club for 10 years, serving as president for the 2010-11 year. He also served as chairperson for the Marquette Housing Authority. Bob’s parents, Leslie and Barbara (Beauchamp) Jones preceded him in death.

Private family burial will take place at Freemount Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette, KS with Pastor James Strasen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marquette EMS or Marquette Lions Club and can be sent to Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, 222 W Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.
