1940-2024
Robert “Bob” D.L. Klein, 84, passed away November 18, 2024 in Dodge City, Kansas.
He was born February 2, 1940 in Larned, the son of DeLloyd and Isabell O. Schasteen Klein. A lifetime area resident, he was the Hanston City Manager and was a school bus driver for 47 years.
He was a volunteer for Hanston EMS and Fire Department. Bob served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Castle Air Force Base, Merced, California; enlisted September. 15, 1959 and was Honorably discharged September 13, 1963. His last duty assignment and major commands were the 93D Civil Engineering Squadron and the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He finished his military career with two years in the reserves on September 14, 1965.
On September 12, 1964, he married Connie Rae Lee in Hanston. She passed away June 12, 1994.
In January 2000, he married Karen Easterday in Las Vegas, NV. She passed away November 28, 2020.
Survivors include: two daughters, Tracy Peterson, Wichita and Jacqueline (Jim) Eckhoff, Hanston; three brothers, Eldon Klein and Jody Klein, both of Dodge City, Steve Klein, Enid, OK; two sisters, Kay Park, Manhattan, Donna Shirman, Wichita; four grandchildren, Karlee Eckhoff, Hanston, Ethan (Tayler) Eckhoff, Ellis, Raelee Peterson and Mackenzie Peterson, both of Wichita and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Isla Eckhoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Richard Klein and five sisters, Carolyn Hertel, Phyllis Allison, Barbara Krentzel, Pat Klein and Ruby Rebel.
Memorial graveside service with military honors will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2024 at Hanston Cemetery, Hanston, with Pastor Doug Ellison presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Following the service, there will be a meal at Elk Plaza for friends and family.
