Rebecca Ann Hamilton
1949-2024

Rebecca Ann Hamilton, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Coffey County Hospital. She was 75 years old.

She was born August 4, 1949, at Delta, CO, the daughter of Harley and Ina “Phillips” Wyatt. She spent her childhood in Grand Junction, CO, and graduated from high school there. She moved to California and was employed as a Teller for the Bank of America. It was there she met John Petrie Sr where he was stationed in the Navy. They moved to upper state New York where John Sr lived.  They had one son, John Jr. Shortly after, they divorced and  Rebecca moved back to Colorado where she obtained her cosmetology license. She and John Jr. then moved to Hugoton, KS, where she owned and operated her own beauty shop. While in Hugoton she met Larry Hamilton and they were married on April 10, 1980, in Hugoton. Along with this marriage Rebecca gained four young daughters, Devina, Jada, Christine and Jennifer.  Larry worked for Panhandle Eastern and was transferred to Hutchinson, KS, in 1989. It was there they adopted Bridgett Hamilton. Larry was then transferred to Centralia, MO, where he worked until retirement. Larry preceded her in death on June 8, 2006. Rebecca then moved to McPherson, KS, to be near family before moving to Burlington, KS, in 2016, to be with her son and daughter-in-law, John and Tammy Petrie.
Rebecca was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Devina and Jennifer Hamilton; a sister, Ramona “Peggy” Drost; and brother, Harley “Butch” Wyatt, Jr.

She leaves her children, John Petrie, Jr. (Tammy), of Burlington, KS; Jada Hamilton, of Great Bend, KS;  Christine Hamilton, of Baxter Springs, KS; and Bridgett Hamilton and significant other, Charlie Dittrick of Watford City, ND; 8 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jim Drost of San Diego, CA; many other relatives and friends.

Cremation is planned. A Celebration of Rebecca’s life will be held at a later date.
