Norman Vern Yoho
1934-2024

Norman Vern Yoho of LeRoy, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at his home. He was 90 years old.

He was born January 26, 1934, southeast of LeRoy, the son of Alfred Edward and Oveta Leone (Meats) Yoho.

The family moved around the LeRoy and Crandall communities and Norman attended different rural schools, finishing grade school at Whitehall Rural School. On May 5, 1953, he entered the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War, in the Calvary Unit at Fort Riley, and upon his Honorable Discharge on March 6, 1959, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Clasp with w/2d Loop, and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was married to Patsy Wagner and while Norman was enroute home for Christmas, on leave from the Army, Patsy and their young son, John Norman Yoho, died in a tragic accident enroute to the railway station to pick him up.

Norman married Kim Pok Hi and they became the parents of four daughters, Dinae, Betty, Donna, and Susan. The family moved back to LeRoy in 1959. They were later divorced.

On September 17, 1966, he and Rose Marie Young were married at the Nazarene Church in Iola, KS. They became the parents of four children, Michelle, Ryan, Sherri, and Darren. Norman farmed and worked at M & M Packing Co. From 1971 until 1978 he and Rose owned and operated the Burlington Locker in Burlington, KS. He then went to work for Clarkson Construction Co. building the dam for the cooling lake at the Wolf Creek Generating Station. In 1982 he was employed by the Coffey County Road and Bridge Department as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He retired in 1992.

Norman loved the outdoors and animals. He raised cattle most of his life. When he needed to relax he would head to the farm.

He was a member of V.F.W. Post #9200 in LeRoy until they dissolved. He then transferred to Post #2709, in Scranton, KS, where he was a life member.

Norman was also preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Diane Yoho and Donna Yoho Jackson.

He leaves Rose, his wife of more than 58 years; children, Betty Haynes, Stanley, NC, Susan Oler, Garnett, KS, Michelle Lickteig (Bernie), Topeka, KS, Ryan Yoho and companion Corrine Adcock, LeRoy (Corrine was also Norman’s caregiver), Sherri Yoho, Winfield, KS, and Warren Yoho, Burlington, KS; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Norma Mannschreck, LeRoy; nieces and nephews, Karen and Clinton Deal and Debbie and Jay Applegate of LeRoy; his beloved cats, Buddy and Molly; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Crandall Cemetery west of LeRoy.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
