Marianne Gawith

Marianne passed away peacefully, attended by NH staff and her niece, on May 22, 2024. She was a farm gal, born in Ellsworth April 3, 1929, and raised on her parents’ rural farm near Windom Kansas.

Marianne was a lover of nature, especially trees and birds. She loved geraniums most of all. She had a green thumb and could grow almost any house plant.

She had a love of music, especially that done by big bands. She loved dancing and could really cut a rug. She fell in love with and married a horse trainer named Glen. Some time after Glen passed away, she met and married Larry, another good dancer. Marianne and Glen raised two children. She ran a very “tight ship” at home, her house was always spotless. Marianne was quick to laugh and slow to anger. She often played pranks with her siblings, brother Fred and two sisters, Elrene and Thelma.

Marianne was also very faithful to her God, and held tight to her beliefs of stories from the Christian Bible.

She is survived by her brother Fred Barta, son Craig, daughter Nickie, and  was very close to her many nieces and nephews. She valued her family very highly, planning and attending family reunions for decades. She was of 100% Czech/Bohemian descent and even spoke some Czech. She kept many records and photos of family history.

It was said that anyone who met her, never forgot her.
