Linda Rae Moerer
1950-2024
Linda was with two of her three daughters when she took her last breath at 1:11am on November 21, 2024 at Neosho Regional Memorial Hospital, Chanute. Her daughters Michelle (Rice) and Rodney Henderson of Springfield, MO, Melinda (Rice) Cunningham, of Parsons, KS and Tracy (Jones) Woods of Chanute, KS survive her.

Linda was born in Kansas City, KS to George Dewitt Moerer, Jr and Ollie May Cox. She was the second of four children including Gary Moerer, Sr. K.C., MO, Janice Wolfe, Chanute. Loren Moerer of Sherevport, LA is the last surviving sibling.

Humboldt, KS became the family’s hometown when they moved there in 1963. Linda started her high school career in Humboldt, graduating with the class of 1968
She worked as an EMT in Humboldt and Fredonia while also working as a part time rural route mail carrier in Iola, KS for many years. She retired from the postal service as a full-time carrier.

The last five years of her life she lived in the home of her youngest daughter, Tracy, due to suffering multiple strokes.

Her true pride and joy were the family she created. She was the biological Mom to Shelly, Mindy and Tracy, but almost all of their friends called her Mom as well. She always had advice, opened her home and heart to them, and even taught most of them to drive. This trend continued to the day she died with her grandchildren’s friends calling her Grandma. She had inside jokes with almost everyone she knew from her one son-in-law, Rodney, joking about her being older than dirt to making funny faces with her youngest grandson, Andrew. She was also known for her love of writing personalized fairy tale type stories for all the children in her life.

Linda joined her parents, George and Ollie, siblings Gary and Janice and niece Missy Moerer one month before her 74th birthday.
She is survived by one brother, Loren and wife Bylinda Moerer of Sherevport, LA.
She is also survived by daughter Michelle and son-in-law Rodney Henderson of Springfield, MO, their two sons Zachariah and Christopher Henderson, and five great-grandchildren: Rafael, Avery, Elija, Kayden and Gunner.
Daughter Melinda Cunningham of Parsons, KS, her three sons Devin, Nathan and Seth Taylor all of Oklahoma and six great-grandchildren Jax, Kash, Olivia, Adaline, Lennox and Beth Taylor
Daughter Tracy Woods and her children Matthew, Andrew and Kai Woods all of Chanute, KS
Too many “adopted” children and grandchildren to list but they know who they are.
She was also known as Aunt La to 12 nieces and nephews and all her great nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life will take place at a later date. The family has entrusted Countryside Funeral Home with arrangements.

The family requests stories (the good, the bad and the ugly) in lieu of other tokens of mourning.
