Leonard L. Bayer, 79, died July 4, 2025 at his home near Kingman.
He was born May 27, 1946, at Nashville, Kansas the son of William and Margaret Gehlen Bayer.
Leonard was a member of the U.S. Army in Korea from Dec. 1965 to Feb. 1967. He worked for Bob Gorham Motors and Bob Watson Motors before opening Bayer Body Shop in 1982. He retired in 2001. After retiring, he started raising miniature donkeys and cattle. He enjoyed working on cars, tending to the garden, playing cards and spending time with his family.
He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman.
On Feb 17, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Lubbers, and they were married for fifty-seven years. Other survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Lori Mertens and husband Les, Stephanie Fairchild and husband Todd; and Stacy Betzen and husband Jeremy; sister Joan Payne; grandchildren Todd Swindle, Shelby Jones, Tangi Mertens, Cody, Eric and Brian Fairchild, Madison Dowsey and Wylan Betzen; great-grandchildren Bentley Swindle, Emily Landis, Noah Roberts, Jase Roberts, Tezlyn Jones, Grayson Jones and Cameron Fairchild. He was preceded in death by his siblings Sister Camillus, Sister Corona, Daniel Bayer, Walter Bayer, Ralph Bayer, Genny Klein, Herman Bayer, Martina Young, Marion Bayer and Harold Bayer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2025 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church with a parish rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, also at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Patrick Church Renovation Fund and sent in care of Livingston Funeral Home, 1830 N. Main, Kingman, KS 67068.
