Larry S. Stockton

Larry Sylvan Stockton, 81, was carried by Angels to the God he loved, on April 14, 2025, after living a life of Christian Mission, nurturing and serving others.

He was born in Columbus, Kansas November 15, 1943.  Larry began his Christian walk, when he accepted Christ at Vacation Bible School at 8 years old.  In 1971, he married Sharon-the love of his life and his treasure, with whom he had a wonderful and happy 54 year marriage.

Larry graduated from Wichita State University with Bachelors Degrees in Elementary Education and Physical Education.  He earned his Masters Degree in Administration in 1977.

As an outstanding educator and coach, Larry was successful in pioneering girls soccer into the Wichita High School Athletic Program during the 1970’s. This accomplishment was groundbreaking in influencing young women’s lives in our community.

During Larry’s early years in the 1950’s, attending middle school in Haviland, Kansas, he was introduced to the game of soccer.  There he developed the love of the game and with the help of others, the foundation was laid for another groundbreaking accomplishment-the community wide establishment of youth soccer (AYSO) in Wichita. His legacy lives on.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Walter and Evelyn Jo; and his brother Joe.  He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his son, Deric; his brother, Jim; his grandchildren, Taya and Raye; as well as nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Central Christian Church (2900 N. Rock Rd. Wichita, Kansas 67226). In lieu of flowers, please contribute to C5 Urban School Initiative (Hope Academy). https://newhorizonsfoundation.com/project/single-project/2962/
