JL Kasparek
1926-2024

JL Kasparek, 98, of Hutchinson, died November 9, 2024, at Hester Care Center. He was born May 11, 1926, in McPherson, to Edward H. and Leona E. (Friesen) Kasparek.

JL graduated from Inman Rural High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 and was stationed in Central Europe during World War II. JL worked at Morton Salt for over 42 years, retiring as manager of their dry salt operations. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, and flying. Most of all, JL enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

On July 15, 1947, JL married Opal M. Gaffney, in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage before her death on February 25, 2007.

He is survived by: his sons, Terry Kasparek (Kathy) and Rod, both of Hutchinson; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

JL was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; daughter, Deborah Housh; and brother, Donald.

Per JL’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
