Frank Lee Brush

Francis Lee Brush,77, originally from Sheffield, PA and longtime resident of Coffey County, KS passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024 in Fayetteville, AR with his wife and children at his side.

Francis was born Jan. 23, 1947 to LeRoy and Elaine Brush in Warren, Pennsylvania and spent his childhood years in nearby Sheffield, PA.

After graduating from Sheffield HS, he enlisted in the US Navy and was assigned to Navy Nuclear Power School. His first assignment was aboard the USS Long Beach, aboard which he completed 4 WestPac deployments during the Vietnam War. While stationed on the West Coast, he attended the Beacon Inn Servicemen's Center in Long Beach where he met Patty (Patricia) Miller - They were married on July 17, 1970.

After completing 7 years of active duty service, he entered the US Naval Reserves and completed his degree at Boston University. He attained the rank of LCDR before retiring from Naval service permanently. Frank continued to serve the government after his military service and became an inspector for the NRC. Frank worked at many power plants across the US Midwest and Southwest. His last posting before retirement was as Senior Resident Inspector at Wolf Creek Power Plant in Burlington, KS.

Frank was devoted to helping others, loved God and was an active member in the church. He was passionate about showing his love to others by conducting visitations, and volunteering with different groups including the Burlington Children's Theater, KS/NEB Disaster Relief, Rotary, CHS Volunteers and God's Storehouse.

His special love of children led him to coach youth baseball, be an assistant Boy Scout leader, counselor at Whispering Winds Bible Camp and as well as becoming a substitute teacher. Frank opened his home and was a host family and friend to many students from Pakistan while they were attending college.

He was also Kansas CASA volunteer and dedicated  foster parent who helped raise more than 80 children.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Howard and Mark and sister Elaine. He is survived by his sister Francelia and brother Alfred. His wife Patricia and 3 children Paul, John and Ruth along with his 3 grandchildren Madison, Miles and Boston are also mourning his loss.

A funeral for Francis will be held Friday July 12, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Burlington, KS. The service will begin at 11AM. There will be a visitation the evening prior at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS from 7 to 9 PM.
